Treat varicose or bothersome veins with Sclerotherapy treatment.
Are you one of the 20% of adults affected by damaged or unsightly veins?
Sclerotherapy is a non-surgical procedure commonly used to treat varicose and spider veins. It is a minimally invasive treatment that can ease the symptoms of itching, cramping, discolouration and pain associated with damaged veins.
What is Sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a proven medical procedure, used to since the 1930’s to treat small varicose and spider veins.
Sclerotherapy involves injecting a special solution into your vein with a very fine needle. The solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to collapse and stick together and the blood to clot. It is a simple, relatively inexpensive procedure that does not require going to hospital or long downtime.
We are pleased to say the majority of patients who receive sclerotherapy treatment are cleared of their varicosities or have significant visible improvement.
Treatments range from one to 6, with the average number being 3 or 4. Individual veins usually require one to 3 treatments.
Frequently Asked Questions
- +What areas can be treated?
Almost all areas where visible veins can be seen can be treated with sclerotherapy.
It is typically used for spider veins and varicose veins in the legs or upper thighs. This treatment is also suitable for the spider veins that can sometimes be seen on the sides of the nose and feet.
- +What is the treatment process?
The site around the veins and the surrounding skin is thoroughly cleaned, while the sclerosant medication is prepared for injection.
Using a strictly aseptic technique, to minimise the risk of infection, as well as a specialist magnifier and light, the medication is injected directly into the vein and compression is applied immediately.
The skin is again thoroughly cleaned and compression stockings are applied.
- +When can I see the results and how long do they last?
The results are cumulative and start to appear after the first treatment.
Review is conducted 3 weeks post-procedure or sooner if needed, and repeat treatment is at 5-6 week intervals.
Each damaged vein typically requires a minimum of 2 or 3 rounds of treatment. Some stubborn veins may require further treatment rounds before complete resolution.
When resolution has been achieved, results generally last for several years. There is a small possibility for recurrence of the varicose veins in the future.
